Dell Wyse ThinOS 9.0 & Wyse Management Suite 2.0

Dell has released a new major version of their ThinClient OS ThinOS, which focuses only on Citrix Workspace app enhancements.

A few days ago, Dell released ThinOS Version 9.0. To quote the release notes:

ThinOS 9.0 is a Citrix-specific release, which integrates Citrix Workspace app. Other Broker agent connections such as VMware, RDP, and Amazon WorkSpaces are not supported in this release. ThinOS 9.0 does not support the usage of INI parameters. You must use either Wyse Management Suite or the local Admin Policy Tool to manage your systems.

The important part is, that you can no longer rely on your good old FTP server and the wnos.ini. You have to implement Wyse Management Suite Version 2.0, which is currently the only way to manage ThinOS 9.0. Wyse Management Suite Version 2.0 is free up to 10.000 devices with a slightly limited feature set. You can find all details in the Wyse Management Suite feature matrix. ICYMI: A few notes about the Citrix Receiver Clean-Up Utility

The Citrix Receiver Clean-Up Utility is no longer needed, as it’s part of the CitrixReceiver.exe nowadays.

The Citrix Receiver Clean-Up Utility has been my biggest friend for a while. It helps you to recover broken Citrix Receiver installations on Microsoft Windows. Before I knew it, I sometimes even reinstalled Windows to get Citrix Receiver back to work. Good old days.
But after many years a trustful friendship came to an end. Citrix included the functionality of the Receiver Clean-Up Utility into the Citrix Receiver Setup a while ago. Continue reading “ICYMI: A few notes about the Citrix Receiver Clean-Up Utility”

So weit so gut.

Update 20.09.2016: Citrix Receiver 7.1 for iOS fails with Error Number: 183

A few days ago, Citrix release a new version of Citrix Receiver for iOS. This version fails on several iOS devices with different iOS versions. Users can login and get their application listing, but as soon as an application is launched, you see the Error 183. On the affected devices you see the following two errors:

Apple devices affected by that problem are listed in the correspondent discussion. Citrix is aware of the problem and announced a bugfix version for the faulty Receiver.

As a workaround, you can install the Citrix Receiver named “R1” which is the old 6.1.5 Receiver from Citrix. They leave it in the AppStore in case of faulty updates.

Update 20.09.2016: The Citrix KB CTX216501 has been updated accordingly.
